The COG Data Catalog is available to view the many different GIS datasets available in the organization. It is a searchable inventory of GIS data organized by enterprise geodatabase. The catalog is a resource for GIS users to find the most relevant data for any business need. Just like our data, this catalog is intended to be dynamic and reflect changes to our GIS assets.
The following information should be complete for each feature class:
- Lives: the name of the enterprise geodatabase
- Feature Class: the name of the feature class
- Description: a description of the feature class, can be pulled from the item’s metadata
- Purpose (Service?): a description of the intended use of the item, any use limitations, intended audience, why it was created, etc.
- Last Updated: date when the feature class was last updated
- Metadata: indicates whether the metadata is complete or needs work
- Open Data: indicates whether the feature class should be available to download from our Open Data hub.
Notes: may include context for the feature class, questions, etc.
Additional information is tracked in order to monitor changes as data is archived and/or transferred to different locations. These status columns include:
- Archive (Yes/No/Maybe)
- Transfer (Yes/No)
- Archived (Y/N)
- Moved (Y/N)
- Moved to
What data is included in the GIS Data Catalog?
All feature classes that are stored in one of our enterprise geodatabases (.sde extension), such as PublicWorks.sde
What data is not included in the GIS Data Catalog?
Shapefiles and feature classes stored in file geodatabases (.fgdb extension) are not included in the data catalog. These data tend to be less authoritative and are often created as outputs or steps in geoprocessing. If you have created or know of a feature class that is not currently in an .sde, but should be, please submit a ticket to transfer the data.
What if a feature class in an enterprise geodatabase is missing from the Data Catalog or has missing information?
If you are the data owner and able to edit the catalog, you can add the feature class and/or any information to the catalog (and fill out all information completely). If you are not able to edit the catalog, submit a ticket to IT to add/update the feature class with complete information.
